There were fireworks

Sunday 5th November 4pm to 5pm I was positively fizzing and the kundalini was being chased down my spine at a glorious rate. For the last 9 months, I have been undergoing treatment for cancer, both traditional and alternative.

As part of my recovery I invited all my lovely boys and girls to take part in a meditation on Sunday 5th November. Many of you responded, wherever you were in your busy and precious lives. Thank you all, I flipping' loves you. Can I have a kiss? promise no tongues.

To that end and for no particular reason, I wanted to replay the famous Plotter's rhyme below. I am not a supporter of blowing anyone up, even a hall-full of lords and politicians, but the  consequences of this kind of action should be "remembered", it was with high risk that anyone took a mission such as this on, (Catholic against Protestant for God's sake, will we ever learn) and the men that went down for this plot suffered the worst fates imaginable.

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.

But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,

The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.

Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

An English folk verse written in this form in 1870 but existent for a few hundred years in other incarnations.

Versions of the above poem have been widespread in England for centuries. They celebrate the foiling of (Catholic) Guy Fawkes's attempt to blow up (Protestant controlled) England's House of Parliament on November 5th, 1605. Known variously as Guy Fawkes Day, Gunpowder Treason Day, and Fireworks Night, the November 5th celebrations in some time periods included the burning of the Pope or Guy Fawkes in effigy.

V for Vendetta is a 2005 dystopian political thriller film directed by James McTeigue and written by The Wachowskis, based on the 1988 DC/Vertigo Comics limited series of the same name by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. The film is set in an alternative future where a neo-fascist regime has subjugated the United Kingdom. Hugo Weaving portrays V, an anarchist freedom fighter who attempts to ignite a revolution through elaborate terrorist acts and Natalie Portman plays Evey, a young, working-class woman caught up in V's mission, while Stephen Rea portrays the detective leading a desperate quest to stop V. The film was originally scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on Friday, November 4, 2005 (a day before the 400th Guy Fawkes Night), but was delayed; it opened on March 17, 2006, to positive reviews. Alan Moore, having been dissatisfied with the film adaptations of his other works From Hell (2001) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), declined to watch the film and asked not to be credited or paid royalties. This graphic novel and subsequent film has been seen by many political groups as an allegory of oppression by government; libertarians and anarchists have used it to promote their beliefs.

Anonymous - whoever they are - have adopted the mask as their own. The Guy Fawkes mask has now become a common brand and a convenient placard to use in protest against tyranny. By the way did you notice that there was a global, peaceful, "Million Mask March" yesterday? And if you think that this is just a bunch of unwashed hackers looking for somewhere to congregate, think again...

Oscar Wilde once said: "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.".
