As tasteless as a Greggs Sausage Roll?

My daughter, knowing of my love-hate relationship with all things sausagey, sent me this link to a "news" item...

Firstly please accept that I respect all religions and I know in my heart of hearts that this piece of fluff is not only great PR for Greggs but also a good gauge of how tolerant we feel we should be. To the kind of modern thinking Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu etc. that I respect, free speech is above all an imperative, if an individual or group are trying to offend on purpose, that, as I have said before, is on them, so I personally try to feel no upset, anger or annoyance at such games. The waters are being tested and that is a good thing.

Greggs 'sorry' for replacing Jesus with sausage roll in Christmas advert

There are calls for the baker to be boycotted over the "sick" publicity image, but others have been able to see the funny side. The offending image shows the Three Wise Men surrounding one of Greggs' trademark sausage rolls, rather than the newborn Jesus. But the image has been deemed tasteless rather than tasty by pressure group the Freedom Association, with chief executive Simon Richards describing the image as "sick" and those behind it as "cowards". "What cowards these people are: we all know that they would never dare insult other religions! They should donate every penny of their profits to @salvationarmyuk."

I wonder if this whole piece is just public relations and profile enhancement for the frankly spurious Freedom Association. Which on it's website states "We are a non-partisan, centre-right, libertarian pressure group. We believe in the freedom of the individual in all aspects of life to as great an extent as possible. As such, we seek to challenge all erosion of civil liberties and campaign in support of individual liberty and freedom of expression. All of the work we undertake falls within the following Seven Principles of a Free Society: Individual Freedom, Personal & Family Responsibility, The Rule of Law, Limited Government, Free Market Economy, National Parliamentary Democracy, and Strong National Defences." - and they find this silly spoof offensive? I am confused. And yet I am compelled to take part in the whole calliope ride anyway, the flipping power of the word and image....

Fighters for "Freedom" please chill out, comedy even when corny is a kind of free expression of abstract concepts and so should stand, and anyway, if the target market that this product is aimed at choose to fill their bellies with Greggs sausage rolls, isn't that punishment enough?

Fun fact: Jesus said backwards as it is spelt sounds like "Sausage"
